After so many controversies, postponements and memes circulating on the internet since the first teaser was released, finally the movie Adipurush released on 16 June 2023. But Boycott Adipurush is trending on Twitter.
The film makers tried all sorts of methods to get some popularity by the so-called PR stunts. The recent one, leaving one seat in every theater empty for Lord Hanuman.
There was a big fraction from the audience which actually wanted to see the movie. But when they actually saw it, they are more than disappointed and frustrated. And now, many of them are asking for a boycott and #BoycottAdipurush is actually trending everywhere.
Although the movie mentions that it is based on Valmiki’s Ramayana, in reality it is nowhere near the original Valmiki Ramayana.
And this is not happening just in India, even in Kathmandu, screening of the movie has been put on hold day after Mayor Balen Shah warns of ‘Boycott’
Below are some of the many reasons why fans are not happy with the movie and telling this is not just a disaster but a disgrace and showing the Hindu epic Ramayana in bad light.
1. Appearance of Lord Hanuman
The biggest disappointment people have about how Lord Hanuman’s character is being portrayed in the movie. Om Raut has literally taken this very lightly, as if the movie is just mock up Hindu sentiments.
Mouth looking as if he is chewing some gutka
They could have used some simple makeup to make his face actually look like Lord Hanuman. But it is looking as if he has filled air in his mouth, similar to what small kids do when they play around.
Muslim styled beard
I don’t know why the character in movie has beard, that too similar to a typical muslim man. There is no mention of Lord Hanuman having beard anywhere in any of the Hindu scriptures.
Wearing leather straps
What those leather straps are doing on Lord Hanuman’s body? Lord Hanuman being an Akhand Brahmachari, how come he is wearing leather straps? People praying Lord Hanuman leave even onion and garlic due to Tamsic Gunas. And the character in the movie adorning leather straps made from animal skin.
No Mukut on head
If you remember the Ramananda’s Ramayana serial, we are used to see Lord Hanuman with a golden Mukut on his head. Not just serial, every picture or idols of Lord Hanuman hsa a Mukut. But in the movie, it is just the opposite. Netizens saying, that the character looks more like a butcher.
Overall not looking graceful
If you read Shri Hanuman Chalisa, it clearly explains how Lord Hanuman looks. Kanchan Varan Viraj Suvesa Kanan Kundal Kinchit Kesa, Hath Vajra Or Dhwaja Viraaje Kaandhe Moonj Janeyu Saaje
That means “Your skin is golden in color and you are adorned with beautiful clothes. you have adorning earrings in your ears and your hair is curly and thick. In your hands, shine a mace and a flag of righteousness. A sacred thread adorns your right shoulder.” Read more about Shri Hanuman Chalisa meaning.
But the Hanuman ji’s character in the movie seems like altogether opposite of the description what we have listened since our childhood days
2. Misrepresented Ravana’s Character
From hair style, facial hair, dress up, double decker heads to a face without tilak and disgraceful acting, everything, nothing looks like the Ravana’s character. There is a scene in the movie where Ravana looks more like a welder.
Ravana was a learned Brahmin and knower of all the scriptures. Through he did a sin to abduct Mata Sita and other sins of killing saints, etc, still that grace should have been displayed on his face.
Some even say he looks like an Islamic invader and looked more like invader Taimur than Ravana. In order to defend that, Om Raut said ‘A Demon Could Look Like This,’
“Ravan is a demon. He was a cruel being so he was given a big mustache, and they showed him as a demon in those times. It was their artistic representation of what a demon would look like. Our Ravan is demonic in today’s times. In today’s times, in my artistic opinion, a demon could look like this,” he added.
Hairstyle looks inspired by Virat Kohli
Ravana’s double-decker faces
Ravana flying on a Bat (Chamgaadad), rather than Pushpak Vimana
3. Cheap dialogues throughout
People who have seen the movie have flooded internet with dialogues which are used in the movie. And the fans are not just unhappy, they are angry the way the dialogues are written.
Manoj Muntashir is being highly criticised for the dialogues in movie.
4. The way Lord Hanuman greeted Mata Sita in the movie
5. Sexualising Ram and Sita character
The default tendency of Bollywoodiyas to sexualise every story in their movies by the way characters dress, songs and actions. They just want to add some love sex masala everywhere.
6. Assuming Bahubali worked because of Prabhas, so will Adipurush
Taking Prabhas as Lord Rama’s character in the movie is based on the assumption that Bahubali worked with Prabhas as an actor. However, Bollywoodias forgot that Bahubali movie didn’t work because of Prabhas but because of Rajamouli. Prabhas hyped too much.
7. Distorted facts of original Ramayana
8. Wearing leather shoes and straps
9. Meghanad aka Indrajit looking like a tattoo artist
10. Mata Sita’s look and character in the movie
Not just these, there are unending reasons being given by the audience who have watched the movie Adipurush and insisting no one should watch it. @BoycottAdipurush
No matter how much money Om Raut has spent on making movie Adipurush and PR activities, but the real Ram Bhakts, still love the old Ramayana and their no match.
Even the Japanese animated movie has done enough justice to the Hindu epic Ramayana.
Creative liberty doesn’t mean that you have all the rights to distort the facts and misrepresent the Hindu epic like Ramayana. It is just a mockery of crores of Hindu people’ sentiments and Sanatana Dharma.
Any commentary, or making movies, serials on such sacred Hindu Granth, must be done with respect, devotion and love.
